I was actually expecting a very typical romantic comedy before I stepped into the theatre, only to discover it was one about time travel. A beautiful story, albeit illogical to some. I like how Rachel McAdams never fails to add flavour to a romantic relationship in films. She always makes audiences fall in love with her! The story is almost poignant, but has more elements that touch the heart, and definitely philosophies to be explored. I particularly like the part where Tim lives his life the way he usually will for the first time and then begins to appreciate the things around him the second time round. I am sure, any of us would probably do the same if we had a chance to travel back in time. I pondered. And I thought if I could travel to the past, I would find the teacher I lost and catch up with him more, tell him that he had been so iconic. It is however a shame we only live our life once. But I think we are also blessed to not have such power, for I believe that when we gain something, we lose something else. The last part of the movie, Tim has to make a difficult decision, and he chooses to move on. It hit me. Not hard. But it did. The future is waiting, we just got to move on. And because we live this life only once, we got to live it. Like, live it. I guess I'm still working on it, and might even take a lifetime to figure this out. In any case, I shall, and will, continue to go in that direction I have picked.
On a side note, it was truly a great catch up with the uni clique. I love the crazy LH, the healthy Mic, the easily amused TH and the nonsensical YX whom I always see and am still seeing. Somehow, I find ourselves always looking for this familiarity amidst all the new and unfamiliar people around us. It seems like unchanged personalities become extremely important as we age... Maybe because humans all have a fear for the unknown. Hence, I really appreciate what remains.
If anything, this Friday is one of the best in a long time.
Now, it's probably ABOUT TIME to sleep.
