It was like a war zone. Every step was taken with extra caution, for fear of landmines that could go off at the slightest movement. There was perhaps an option of a kamikaze, but had always remained a last resort. The best defence was never to attack, but to bide one's time. Once in a while, taking a risk was inevitable. Whichever the strategy, no one would come out of these perils without being bruised and battered.
