The past three days seemed to have passed rather quickly. It has been a short period of weariness, anger, laughter and reflection.
Day 1 was spent at the airport picking up people whom I had never met before. I really think I would have died if not for 林立老师. He hired me as a helper but he did almost everything. And I really like being at the airport, I don't know why though. I realised I prefer being at the arrival hall a lot more to being at the departure hall. I mean, no one likes to part with their loved ones. In comparison, the arrival hall is pretty much a happier place, when I saw groups of people running out to hug their loved ones whom they had probably not seen in some time. I saw this little girl, around the age of five, run towards his father into his embrace and said to him "I miss you Daddy." It was a heartwarming sight.
Day 2 was labour work and exploring Singapore with the aged poets. It was quite a strange feeling to be on a Singapore tour bus as a Singaporean and listening to the tour guide introduce Singapore. But it only made me discover how little I know about my own country and how beautiful my country is but definitely not an inspirational environment to produce poems. Tired though, a few of us stayed over at V-Hotel and sneaked out at 2a.m. to have supper. Once again, it was something new to sleep in a Singapore hotel as a Singaporean, but something I have always wanted to try out.
Day 3 was still pretty much labour work but most of the day was spent outside exploring Singapore again. I was really thankful to be able to sit with all my friends during dinner because only with them was I able to enjoy my meal. We almost died of hunger while waiting for Mr. S.R. Nathan to arrive. Finally managed to finish what we were supposed to by midnight and cabbed home.
I agreed to help out with this event in the beginning simply because of 林立老师 but I am glad I have learnt something and discovered quite a bit these days.
1. Don't rush a person when he/she is eating. It is so stressful!
2. Facilitating a group of eldery really trains your patience and endurance because under any circumstances, you cannot blow your top for you must respect your elders.
3. 林立老师 is really kind to students!!!!!
